Example: A dog bred on September 1, 2026 is due on November 3, 2026, with a normal window of October 29 – November 8. An ultrasound can confirm pregnancy from about September 26, and an X-ray to count puppies from October 16.

When can a vet confirm pregnancy?
An ultrasound can show heartbeats from about day 25, a vet may feel the puppies by palpation around day 28–35, and an X-ray after day 45 can count skeletons.
What are the signs labor is near?
Her rectal temperature drops below about 99 °F (37.2 °C) 12–24 hours before whelping. She may also refuse food, pant and start nesting.
